Maesglas, in grabbing the headlines over the weekend with an excellent win over an accomplished Lampeter side, emerged as favourites to clinch the championship on their return to the First Division.
Dai Cole opened the home side’s account early on before skipper Darren Williams added a second from over thirty yards. Mark Wilkins then pulled one back from the penalty spot but the contest was all but settled before half-time as Phil Furney netted a couple to put the game beyond Lampeter’s reach. Hard though they tried the visitors failed to make any real headway in the second half and their only further consolation was a late goal from substitute Luke Parish. New Quay kept very much in touch with pole position at the top of the table with a nine goal demolition of luckless Llandysul. Chris Atkinson led the way with four, there were two each for David Evans and Mathew Mousley and one for Gareth Thomas. In a hard fought encounter Aberaeron edged out Aberporth by the odd goal in five. The homesters took the lead when Neil Harman capitalised on a mistake by visiting keeper Barry Edwards only for the effort to be cancelled out before half-time by Andy Hibbard who headed home from a Gareth Lewis cross. After Harman and Stuart Smith had each netted to keep the scores level in the second half the points were won five minutes from time when following good work along the left Jason Jones struck to score from close range. Llanybydder notched up an excellent away win at Cardigan. After Paul Simmons and Louis Evans had given them an interval lead further goals in the second half from Shane Lovell and Jason Jones added to the home side’s embarrassment. They rallied however, in the final ten minutes and pulled two back through Gary Lawrence and Peter Edwards. Goals were at a premium in the game between St Dogmaels and Dewi Stars and although they did most of the running the Saints had to settle for a late, solitary effort from Phil Thomas to clinch the points. In the other game played Crannog returned an improved performance with second half goals from Leigh Davies and Huw Reed being enough to dispose of Ffostrasol. In the Second Division there were victories for Lampeter Reserves, Llanboidy and NCE over Felinfach, SDUC and Cardigan Reserves respectively. |
